Object Information:
A large, bright emission nebula, classified as an H II region, the star-forming nebula lies at a distance of 4,100 light years from Earth.
The nebula contains a number of Bok globules (dark, collapsing clouds of protostellar material).
The Lagoon Nebula also contains at its centre a structure known as the Hourglass Nebula.
